Last year was a blur for just about everyone involved with the Colorado Buffaloes.
In head coach Deion Sanders’ first season at the helm, fans and players alike learned on the fly about what the expectations are. Now, a core leadership team, which includes quarterback Shedeur Sanders and defensive lineman Shane Cokes, is setting the standard for the latest crop of Buffs.
CU made headlines for not designating traditional player captains last year. Instead, leaders wore an “L” patch on their jersey while dawgs sported a “D.” Cokes, who wore an “L” on his chest last season, met with the media on Monday and spoke on how Colorado’s returning player leaders are setting the tone during fall camp:
“We’ve been here for a year,” Cokes said. “We know how it’s run. We know how Coach Prime likes things, we know how coach (Robert) Livingston wants things run, how coach (Pat) Shurmur wants thing run, so that’s what we do. We lead from the front, we make sure other guys know when they come in and we build it. This summer, it couldn’t have been any better for us, getting everybody together and make sure everybody knew what the standard was and holding everybody to it.”
