The EU is considering a revised energy tax bill that would move up the date by which it will review imposing such taxes on aviation and maritime fuel from 2043 to before 2035.
In a draft document dated Oct. 16 provided to Bloomberg Tax, Hungary, which holds the European Union’s rotating presidency, wrote that “technical negotiations on this file are at the final stage,” and that it wants the bill, known as the Energy Taxation Directive, to be on the agenda for the EU financial ministers’ summit in December.
