Now in its third year, Longford Rugby Club has unveiled the line up for their annual business lunch fundraiser which attracts business people and rugby fans across the county.
The luncheon taking place on Friday, November 1 will offer a unique opportunity to hear from leading Longford businessman Frank Kiernan, founder of Kiernan Structural Steel, Longford’s award winning journalist, Shaunagh Connaire and double Olympian Darragh Greene.
In conversation with Benny O’Brien, attendees on the day will hear from some of the most successful in their field, learning tips on how to stay focused and involved through thick and thin.

Kiernan Structural Steel grew from a small enterprise serving the local farming community to becoming one of Ireland’s biggest steel companies, employing over 200 people in their Irish and UK operations. Frank Kiernan has led the business from this small start up, through multiple recessions to the success story it is today.
Longford native Shaunagh Connaire, is a double Emmy nominated independent journalist and filmmaker and the first female recipient of the Freedom of Longford honour. She’s worked as a Director at the Clooney Foundation for Justice, reporting directly to George and Amal Clooney, an Editor at the Financial Times in New York, a Producer and Edit Director at the BBC and a Reporter/Producer at Channel 4 in the UK. She’s also the creator and host of the Media Tribe podcast which hit number one in the ‘Society & Culture’ Apple charts in Ireland.

Double Olympian, Darragh Greene, originally from Newtownforbes, holds the Irish 50m, 100m, and 200m breaststroke records. He was seventh in the European LC 100m final this summer and tenth in the 200m.
He was a 2024 European Championships finalist in the 100-metre breaststroke (seventh). In 2018, he became the first Irish swimmer to break one minute for 100-metre breaststroke, clocking 59.92 in the semifinals of the European Championships in Glasgow (GBR).
Derick Turner, one of the event organisers, said, “The Business Lunch has become a fixture in the Rugby Club calendar and we are delighted with the great support by the rugby, business and community sectors. It promises to be a great afternoon, offering lunch, auction and spot prizes.”
