Sari ​Multala, Finland’s Minister of Science and Culture, recently visited Imperial College to emphasize the expanding research ⁤partnerships between the UK and Finland.

Accompanying her ‌was Jukka Siukosaari, the ⁢Finnish Ambassador ⁢to the UK.

Welcoming them were Professor Ian Walmsley CBE, Provost of Imperial, alongside Professor Arttu Rajantie from the Department of Physics and Chair of the Finnish Science Society. Together they⁢ briefed the minister and her team⁢ on various initiatives at the university.

The Minister toured ⁤the Bezos Centre for Sustainable Protein, where she engaged with both researchers and students about their collaborative projects with Finnish⁤ institutions. This ‌initiative underscores a⁢ commitment to innovative solutions in sustainability.

Strengthening Ties Between Finland and Imperial

There exists a robust connection ​between Imperial‍ College London and its Finnish ⁤counterparts, highlighted by⁤ a vibrant community that includes over 40 staff members and students‍ from Finland.

The university’s ⁢involvement encompasses ⁤32 ongoing collaborations under Horizon ⁣Europe with Finland-related institutions.

The​ research covered‍ under these projects ⁣spans ⁤crucial⁣ areas including responses⁣ to COVID-19, sourcing ​sustainable raw materials efficiently, ‌advancing climate science ⁢models, exploring yeast-based innovations in sustainable‌ aviation fuel development, along ​with breakthroughs in energy storage ⁤technologies.

Additively, cooperation extends to VTT Technical Research Centre from Finland among other stakeholders ‌aimed at establishing global⁤ biofoundry standards. This effort receives crucial ⁢backing via funding from the US National Science ​Foundation Global ​Centers program.
