The Denver Broncos are coming off a frustrating loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.
A win in that game would have guaranteed them a playoff spot, but they are now one loss away from being eliminated.
This matchup with the Bengals was hard-fought from the jump, and both teams had times when it looked like they would put the game away.
The most haunting, at least to Sean Payton, is his decision to kick an extra point at the end of regulation rather than trying a two-point conversion.
Bo Nix threw a touchdown pass to Marvin Mims with eight seconds left on the clock, bringing them within one point of the Bengals.
While many analysts might have said to go for two and not go into overtime, Payton decided to play it safe, which ultimately led to a Broncos loss.
Payton talked about this decision, as DNVR Broncos recently laid out on X.

“You always second guess,” Payton said.

As he mentioned, when the final buzzer rang and the Broncos lost the game, it was easy to look back at his decision and wonder if it was the right call.
On the other side of the coin, if he had gone for two and missed, the Broncos would have lost anyway, and fans would have questioned his judgment at the moment.
NFL head coaches have a tough job, as all eyes are constantly on them, and a split-second decision can cost their team a game if not their job.
