SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Rikki’s, San Francisco’s first girls’s sports activities bar, is on the brink of open up within the metropolis’s Castro neighborhood.

The bar is anticipated to open someday within the spring. It would name the realm of Market and Sanchez Streets its residence — the previous location for Copas, a Mexican restaurant.
The bars co-owners, Sara Yergovich and Danielle Thoe, met enjoying soccer for the San Francisco Spikes. They instructed KRON4 that they bonded over their wrestle to discover a bar to look at girls’s sports activities.
“We wanted to open the bar because we were struggling to find reliable places to watch women’s sports in San Francisco,” stated Yergovich. “We wanted to have a place where you could come in and know that you can find community and know that you can watch all the amazing women’s sports coming out right now.”
“Seeing two professional teams in the biggest women’s sports leagues in the U.S., coming within a year of each other, was like, ‘Okay, this really is the moment. This is the time,’” stated Thoe. “There’s so much excitement. You see all the season ticket deposits for the Valkyries. It was something we knew we wanted to work on, and it was extra motivation like, ‘the time is right. Let’s do it now.’”
Rikki’s is called after Rikki Streicher, a San Franciso-based activist who operated bars within the metropolis whereas offering a secure and inclusive gathering area for all members of the LGBTQ+ neighborhood.
