The Toronto Blue Jays finished in last place in the American League East in 2024.
Because they reside in one of the best divisions in baseball, they need to stay aggressive in the offseason to remain competitive.
The Blue Jays were one of the teams in talks with top free agent Juan Soto, but he eventually signed a large contract with the New York Mets.
After an unglamorous start to the offseason that has seen the Blue Jays acquire some lesser-known players, there reportedly is one player they are trying to keep for the foreseeable future.
“The Jays are trying to get an extension done with Vladimir Guerrero Jr.,” MLB insider Ken Rosenthal said, via Foul Territory.

Guerrero debuted in 2019 with the Blue Jays and the first baseman has played all six seasons of his career with them.
The four-time All-Star had another productive year in 2024 as he played in 159 games and batted .323 with 30 home runs, 103 RBIs and a .940 OPS.
Guerrero is expected to be back with the Blue Jays for the 2025 season but is set to become a free agent after the season.
Rosenthal questions how much money it will take for the Blue Jays to sign Guerrero to a contract extension after seeing how much Soto got from the Mets.
Guerrero will be a name to keep an eye on to see if the Blue Jays can reach a deal to extend his stay in Toronto.
