Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) on Wednesday mentioned the Home will take “appropriate action” when it returns to Washington within the fall if the Trump administration doesn’t launch the information pertaining to Jeffrey Epstein.
The feedback got here hours earlier than the Home is scheduled to interrupt for the weeks-long August recess, which is starting at some point sooner than deliberate because the chamber stays at a partial standstill over the Epstein saga.
On Wednesday, Johnson mentioned he wished to depart time for the Division of Justice (DOJ) to launch the Epstein paperwork earlier than staging a vote within the Home on the matter. Final week, President Trump directed Lawyer Common Pam Bondi to maneuver to launch related grand jury transcripts from the Epstein case, and the president himself has mentioned “credible” data might be printed.
“This information should have come out a long time ago,” Johnson advised reporters within the Capitol. “I’ve been an advocate of that, we all have. But that process is underway right now, and we’ve got to jealously guard that and protect it and make sure it’s happening. And if it doesn’t, then we’ll take appropriate action when everybody returns here. But we have to allow the court process to play out, that’s how it works.”
He argued that the DOJ wants time to sift by means of the data and redact the names of harmless victims and different people, which might “destroy their lives.”
