Russian law enforcement officials detained two employees at a mental health clinic in Moscow after an incident left a 20-year-old patient without her hands, as reported on Wednesday by a municipal deputy closely monitoring the situation.

The workers are accused of restraining a 20-year-old woman with disabilities in a manner that restricted blood flow, necessitating the amputation of both her wrists, according to the Investigative Committee of Russia.

Municipal deputy Roman Galenkin, who represents the Obruchevsky district where the state-operated mental health facility is located, noted that the event occurred in mid-October, sparking outrage within the local community.

In a Telegram post dated October 31, he stated that the young woman was “unable to call for help or defend herself.”

According to Galenkin, staff members reported that state prosecutors visited the clinic that morning and apprehended the two personnel who were on duty during the incident.

The director of the Obruchevsky clinic, where the event took place, has also been dismissed after holding the position for less than six months, as Galenkin indicated.

In a previous post, he outlined how the attendants reportedly used woolen tights to bind the young woman’s hands instead of appropriate medical restraints, resulting in severe marks on her wrists. By the time the staff noticed her condition on the morning of October 14, he remarked, gangrene had already developed.
