Members of the community gathered for a spring bulb planting event at a newly established garden dedicated to Queen Elizabeth II in Regent’s Park.
This two-acre garden, established by The Royal Parks Charity to celebrate the life of the late monarch, is scheduled to open in central London in the spring of next year.
Participants had the opportunity to register for one-hour slots on Saturday, where they planted bulbs such as daffodils and snowdrops while enjoying a guided tour of the garden.
This garden complements the UK National Memorial to Queen Elizabeth II, which will be located in St James’s Park, near Buckingham Palace.
The former queen became the patron of the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) in 1952, the same year she ascended to the throne, and frequently attended the RHS Chelsea Flower Show throughout her 70-year reign.
The charity noted that the garden has been crafted by London-based landscape architects HTA Design, intended to serve as “a peaceful area for contemplation in the heart of London.”
It will include a pond, a viewing platform, and a flower garden, featuring “plants that hold significance for the late Queen,” according to the charity.
The bulbs selected for Saturday’s planting were intended to bring vibrant color and “to provide nectar and pollen for essential pollinators,” the charity stated.
