Three-time Grand Slam champion Swiss tennis player **Stan Wawrinka** has become the second oldest player to triumph in the men’s singles draw at the Australian Open, according to Opta Ace. Wawrinka claimed victory in his first-round match at the 2026 Australian Open against Serbian player **Laslo Djere**, winning with a score of 5-7, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4).

Wawrinka progressed to the second round of the tournament at the age of 40 years and 296 days. The record for the oldest player to win a match at the Australian Open is held by Croatian Ivo Karlovic, who achieved this feat at the age of 40 years and 326 days in the 2015 season.

In the second round of the 2026 Australian Open, Stan Wawrinka will face the winner of the match between Czech player Jiri Lehecka and Frenchman Arthur Fils.
