Russian airstrikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure have left thousands in Kyiv without heat during freezing temperatures, Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported Tuesday morning.
Klitschko indicated that nearly 6,000 residential buildings are without heating, and a significant portion of the city is also lacking running water. The temperature forecast for Kyiv on Tuesday indicates a high of minus 6 degrees Celsius (28 degrees Fahrenheit) and a low of minus 13 degrees Celsius (8 degrees Fahrenheit).
The overnight assault resulted in injuries to at least one woman, who was subsequently taken to the hospital. Several structures, including an elementary school, sustained damage.
“The municipal and energy services are actively working to restore heating, water, and electricity across the city,” the mayor stated.
These recent airstrikes by Russia occurred just days after the most severe attacks on Ukraine’s energy grid since the onset of the full-scale invasion in February 2022, which resulted in half of Kyiv losing power and heating during strikes on January 9.
