Every era has its songs that seem to come from nowhere, take over the radio for a summer, and then quietly fade while everyone moves on. The people behind those songs rarely fade quite as easily. Some rebuilt entire careers around one moment of fame, while others simply kept living, working, and occasionally popping back into the culture they once briefly ruled.
Vanilla Ice: From Ice Ice Baby to brewery owner

Robert Van Winkle, better known as Vanilla Ice, became the first rapper to top the Billboard Hot 100 with a song that turned him into an instant, if somewhat mocked, pop culture fixture. He topped charts around the world and established himself as the first rapper to top the Billboard Hot 100, with several more hit singles following before his star waned by the mid-90s. The flattop and the tracksuit are long gone, but the persona never really left him.
These days Vanilla Ice still tours, though dates are sparser than they once were, and he has leaned hard into nostalgia circuits alongside other acts from his era. He has been working on a brewery in downtown Lake Worth Beach, Florida, in a nearly 100 year old building that once was a Masonic lodge, planned to include a museum, outdoor venue and rooftop bar. He has also branched into television, hosting a home renovation show, and even partnered with an energy drink brand carrying his name, proof that the Ice Ice Baby machine never fully…
