Colin Trevorrow: from Sundance darling to franchise caretaker
Colin Trevorrow’s 2012 indie hit turned him into one of the most sought-after new voices in American film, and Universal handed him the keys to a dormant dinosaur franchise almost immediately after. That gamble paid off enormously, as the film earned more than $1.6 billion at the worldwide box office. The follow-up was supposed to be Star Wars, but he was the co-writer and director of Star Wars: Duel of the Fates until his departure in 2017, although he retained story credit when the project was re-envisioned as The Rise of Skywalker.
