**Alexey Emelin** has joined the coaching staff of the hockey club “Lada,” where he will focus on working with defensemen. This was reported by the press service of the Tolyatti team.
Emelin, who was born in Tolyatti, is a product of the “Lada” youth system. He made his debut with the first team at the age of 18, playing 110 games over three seasons in the Super League and accumulating 21 points. In 2004, he was selected by the Montreal Canadiens as the 84th overall pick in the NHL Draft.
In the KHL, Alexey played 486 games for teams including Ak Bars, Avangard, Dynamo Minsk, and Spartak, registering a total of 137 points (39 goals and 98 assists) with a plus-minus rating of +33. He is a three-time Gagarin Cup champion, having won the title with both Ak Bars and Avangard.
From 2011 to 2018, Emelin competed in North America for the Montreal Canadiens and the Nashville Predators. In the NHL, he tallied 81 points (15 goals and 66 assists) over 456 regular-season games and added 5 points (1 goal and 4 assists) in 39 playoff games.
Emelin made his international debut for the Russian national team during the Euro Hockey Tour in 2006. He has participated in five World Championships and the Winter Olympics in Sochi. He was a World Champion in 2012 and has also earned silver and two bronze medals at the World Championships.
