Houston ISD Broadens Early College Program to Five More High Schools in 2027-28
Expanding Access to College Credit Opportunities Across Houston
Houston Independent School District (HISD) is poised to significantly widen its early college initiative by launching programs at five additional high schools starting in the 2027-28 school year. This expansion is designed to increase student access to college-level courses, enabling them to accumulate college credits while still enrolled in high school. By doing so, HISD aims to enhance college preparedness, reduce the financial strain of higher education, and accelerate degree completion for a broader student demographic.
The newly included schools will offer specialized academic tracks aligned with local industry demands and higher education partnerships, ensuring students receive relevant and rigorous instruction.
New Participating Schools and Their Academic Focus Areas
Each of the five high schools will feature distinct program emphases, supported by collaborations with prominent universities and colleges in the Houston area:
