It has been a tough few weeks for Barcelona forward Joao Felix as his performance levels have deteriorated in recent matches.
After having made a bright start to life at Barça following his loan move from Atletico Madrid, the 24-year-old has been going through a bit of a lull.
As a result, Felix was taken off at half-time against Almeria prior to the Christmas break, and did not start against Las Palmas in the team’s first game of 2024.
Given an opportunity against UD Barbastro in the Copa del Rey on Sunday, the Portuguese ace failed to make the most of it, leading to doubts arising over a permanent move for him in the summer.
Barcelona staff still have faith
However, according to SPORT, Barcelona’s sporting department remains convinced that Joao Felix will bring a lot of joy to the club in the time to come.
The sports management team retains full confidence that the forward will recover his best level and help the team win titles and trophies even though there are some doubts within the coaching staff.
It must be remembered that the deal for Felix was pushed forward by club president Joan Laporta, sporting director Deco, and superagent Jorge Mendes. Manager Xavi Hernandez was not always on board with the idea of having the Atletico loanee as part of the team.
But things seemed to have worked out for everyone as the attacker made a fine start in Catalonia. However, recent inconsistent performances are bound to create some doubts, more so considering the club’s delicate economic situation.
It had been previously reported that work had already begun to retain Joao Felix’s services beyond the current season, even if it would be in another loan deal with a mandatory buy clause.
But, even though there is confidence within the sports staff, talks for a permanent move will not be rushed and everything will depend on how the player performs between now and the end of the season.
