Eddie Howe has responded to reports from Germany linking former Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann with his job at Newcastle United.
This comes after Sport Bild claimed Toon chiefs were considering a summer move for the German coach, but Howe insists that his future will be decided by his results, not reports in the media.
Asked about midweek links to Nagelsmann and the prospect of a big-name replacing him at St James’ Park, Howe said: “Genuinely it doesn’t affect me. I’m here, sat in the seat. My future will be defined by what I do, nobody else.
“It’s up to me to continually prove (that this club is off limits to big-name managers). But I back myself and my abilities. I know what I bring to the job and my qualities. I have ambitions for the team and for the club — I can’t control what people write.”
Howe was also asked about suggestions our summer transfer plans will change following Dan Ashworth’s exit, but insists they will be ‘unaffected’ ahead of upcoming meetings on the recruitment front.
“I haven’t had too many meetings regarding the summer as of yet, I’m sure they’ll gather pace as we get closer to the summer window,” he said. “They’ll be unaffected by Dan’s exit.”
