Tiger Woods Boldly Embraces PGA Tour ‘Leader’ Role; Stamps Authority Against PIF Amid Merger Talks

It appears Tiger Woods has finally accepted the role of the leader! The golf world had been met with nothing short of surprise when the rumors of the Player Directors meeting with Yasir Al-Rumayyan, which were later confirmed, came out. Well, it appears that the meet-up which was initially set to be held in Florida and then switched to the Bahamas at the Albany Golf Course, saw the legend leading the same, per reports.

A tweet was shared by Bob Harig on X (previously known as Twitter) mentioning how “A ‘Very Engaged’ Tiger Woods Hosted PGA Tour/PIF Bahamas Meeting and Played Golf With Yasir Al-Rumayyan”. What’s more, the gathering reportedly saw the 15-time major winner embrace his role as the Vice-Chairman of the PGA TOUR Enterprises while hosting the Saudi-backed fund and its Governor for the negotiations concerning the merger.

Webb Simpson, a member of the Board of Directors for the for-profit entity and a Player Director from the Policy Board, reportedly mentioned how Woods “was very engaged” for the gathering. Adding on, the 38-year-old was all praise for the 15-time major champ as he said, “Outside of our meeting he’s been super engaged along the way.”

That’s not all; doubling down on his compliments, he mentioned, “He’s a great leader and I really think he’s taken the position of our leader and we rely on him a lot,” while commenting on the 82-time PGA Tour champ’s new position as the VC. Meanwhile, the meeting saw all the six Player Directors, including the newly appointed board liaison, Joe Ogilvie, Jay Monahan, and a few of the Strategic Sports Group attend the Albany Golf Course.

Although not many details have been released regarding the gathering, reports indicate how both sides are far away from any sort of agreement. Moreover, a recent memo sent by Monahan to the members of the Tour also seems to be pointing to the same.
