Rio Ferdinand insisted that Jadon Sancho would not have seen his spot in the Champions League semi finals coming.
The England international started both legs of the quarter final against Atletico Madrid and played a key role as the German’s got the better of their Spanish counterparts.
Dortmund were trailing 2-1 heading into the second leg on Tuesday night but turned it around with a 4-2 win on to go through 5-4 on aggregate.
Sancho has turned his season around
Chelsea loanee Ian Maatsen and former Manchester United midfielder Marcel Sabitzer got on the score sheet with Sancho getting involved in the celebrations both after the goals and at full time.
Former United defender Ferdinand, speaking on TNT Sports pointed out Sancho’s upturn in fortune this season following his loan move from United in January.
Ferdinand has praised Sancho for turning his season around.
“We asked for Sancho to put in a performance”, Ferdinand said.
“A lot to prove and he’s showing it.
“He’s left Manchester United under a cloud, he’s now in a Champions League semi-final against PSG. Who could have written that script? He wouldn’t have seen that coming.”
The 24-year-old left Old Trafford on bad terms following a very public falling out with manager Erik ten Hag, but his rediscovered his form in Germany.
The winger joined the Red Devils for £73million in 2021 from Dortmund, and has not played for United since their win against Nottingham Forest back in August.

In that period Sancho has spent time training on his own and with members of the club’s academy before returning to his former club on loan.
He has played a key role for Dortmund since his return, making 14 appearances so far as he aims to win his first Champions League.
Since returning to Germany Sancho has registered two goals and two assists.
