Iowa Tornado Videos Show Severe Storms, Devastation As Deaths Reported

A devastating tornado that ripped through Iowa on Tuesday caused several deaths and left a trail of damage.

Videos of the incident show huge twisters tearing through the countryside and buildings severely damaged, especially in the town of Greenfield, located about 60 miles southwest of Des Moines.

Officials said that several people had died in the severe weather. Iowa State Patrol Sergeant Alex Dinkla said on Tuesday night: “Sadly, we can confirm that there have been fatalities. We’re still counting at this time.”

He went on to say that he and his team believe “everyone is accounted for” but would continue to carry out more searches as part of their due diligence.

Multiple people were also injured in Greenfield. The Adair County Health System posted on Facebook that it had set up a triage center at Greenfield High School for people to go to if they need medical attention.

Officials put a curfew in place from 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday to 7:.00 a.m. on Wednesday. “We do anticipate that curfew lasting for some time,” Dinkla said.

In total, more than 20 tornadoes were reported across the state to the National Weather Service (NWS).
