There’s something quietly strange about the way Hollywood treats its youngest stars. For a few golden years, a child actor can be the most recognizable face on the planet. Their image ends up on lunchboxes, magazine covers, and bedroom walls. Then, almost without warning, the camera moves on.
Some fade out by choice. Others get nudged out by an industry that simply stopped calling. Either way, the result is the same: people who were once impossible to miss have become almost impossible to place. Here are eleven of them.
1. Jonathan Taylor Thomas – The Heartthrob Who Chose Harvard Over Hollywood
Jonathan Taylor Thomas became famous for portraying Randy Taylor on Home Improvement and voicing young Simba in The Lion King in 1994. In the mid-90s, his face was on virtually every teen magazine in print. He was, without exaggeration, one of the most recognizable teenagers in America.
He stepped away at the height of his fame to attend college. His last acting credit was in fellow Home Improvement star Tim Allen’s show, Last Man Standing, where he appeared in four episodes from 2013 to 2015. He has fan accounts on social media but no public accounts of his own, and he is rarely photographed, though it makes news when he is.
